“I suppose it would be impossible to keep house with only 36 doilies” Anne of Green Gables

I’ve had tons of work... Not that it would surprise anyone... But I have been trying to think about my flat and the things I love and the things I’d love to have...

I’ve recently become addicted to decorating blogs... I so want my place to be unique and reflect who I am... colour schemes... objects... heirlooms... art...

Do you like doilies? I have always liked them and have lots of them. I’ve had them for years carefully wrapped in tissue paper... My granny knitted most of them... I can hardly remember her, cancer took her when I was very young... But I do remember her hands and her voice and the way she always called me to come have a conversation and some candy in the afternoon... I am so happy that her doilies were all handed down to me...

Doilies are so hard to use in modern decorating, aren’t they? I happened to find this photo of a doily table runner... A bit too busy for my taste... But the perfect idea...

Very bad mobile photo of my favourite version so far...

I started playing with a few of them today... Not yet sure about what I have come up with... So I still haven’t tied them together... I think I may need to play some more...

  1. I tend to not be a doily fan. But I am a big fan of objects that remind us of those we love. And I LOVE that table runner.
Thank you, dear you, for the VERY kind comment you left at my place!
Hope things are well for you. You are much in my thoughts.

  3. Hi Lena,
I have crocheted many, many doilies in my life. It's one of my favorite things to crochet. There are many new patterns that have more modern looking doilies.
Another idea for your heirloom doilies is to frame them. You can use a pretty color velvet for the background and whatever frame that you may like. Love Di ♥

  4. Hi Di!

I wish I could crochet or knit... Alas, I can't... ok... maybe I'm exaggerating... I can knit a square... but that's about it, not skilled at all...

I've been thinking of cushions for my guest room... once I have one... but framing could be a good solution... thank you so much for the suggestion...

    tons of hugs!!! Love, XXX

  5. Oh I thought they were just a British thing. I'm amazed that they were all over the world!

  7. Funny, my grandmother knitted them too, and I have tons. I did sew a few of mine into decorative pillows used on my bed. They look so romantic!
